This is not a review, just a comment I have on one scene in this manga. Comic. OEL. Whatever you want to call it. How to refer to “manga-inspired comics marketed towards the manga-reading audience of the western world, produced by people from the western world”, that is such a tiresome topic that I won’t really say much on it here.
I understand that an author of non-Japanese ‘manga’ probably can’t shrug off the debates as easily as I can. Or the debates will just come back, again and again, in the form of people who accuse your works of being “not real manga” and therefore automatically inferior to all “real” manga. (Apparantly even crap manga.) I understand the frustration, because it is a stupid topic, and I understand the need to somehow make a statement about the issue in one’s successful own series.
But how do you do that?
