The month of April is going to give us some potentially interesting manga oneshots, in Jump SQ and in its spin-off special, Jump SQ II (which will go on sale in mid April, sporting a collaboration between Hiroyuki Takei of Shaman King fame, and Stan Lee. The Stan Lee!).
But first the Jump SQ oneshots.

‘Sachie-chan Guu!!’ by Akira Toriyama (story) and Masakazu Katsura (artwork).
Aaand…

‘Kare no Satsujin Keikaku’ by Mohiro Kitoh.
Yeah, that’s Kitoh alright. I wonder how much rape he can stick into a shounen manga. I am sure I’m not the only one who thnks that the contrast between these two manga couldn’t be greater, just going by these pieces of artwork. The Toriyama/Katsura combo presents us with an unusual variation of Katsura’s drawing style, and I did not exactly expect a goofy/quirky/sparkly schoolgirl either.
Kitoh, on the other hand, is typically Kitoh, apparantly both in artwork and in subject matter. The girl in this picture does not look particularly happy, and knowing Kitoh, she probably has a childhood trauma or two, will flip out and kill her class, parents or boyfriend, or kill herself over an unwanted pregnancy or the like. Maybe even all of these! I admit that with Kitoh, I consider nothing too fucked-up.

Toss me a copy of KnSK if you can find it? :3
And yes, I’d judge the probably of there being murder/rape/trauma involved in a oneshot called “His Murder Plan” rather likely!

Well, yeah. =P
But honestly, even if the manga was titled “Fluffy bunny story”, I’d assume it’s about rape, as long as the author is Mohiro Kitoh.

True, dat.

Correction: With Kitoh, I would always assume some sort of escalation. You know, like he cannot “just” have a girl get murdered by a monster, he has to have the girl get murdered by a monster when she is about to have sex with her brother.

Hmmmm. Not necessarily! Just look at Bokurano – there the kids’ deaths are… about as formulaic as Kitoh can get, I guess! And it nearly always happens off screen, too.

Interesting! But I still won’t read Bokurano. It might just be playing nice to lure people in, and then strike!

We’re nearly up to chapter 50 and close to the end and so far the instances of gore have been rare enough. I think Kitoh might’ve actually comprehended something about how to attract readers!

One would think “NO SNUFF” was evident from the get-go … D:
